The basics:

• Complete the 40-hour required pre-licensing course.
• Pass the appropriate exam.
• Not being under indictment for a felony or other crime that is, in the Commission's judgment, affects the individual's ability to practice as a real estate salesperson competently and safely or under indictment for forgery, theft, extortion, conspiracy to defraud creditors or fraud.
• Apply for licensure within six months after passing the exam.
• Pay the appropriate fees (licensing and recovery fund fees)
  

Additional Requirements for Salesperson License: An applicant wishing to become a licensed salesperson must be at least 19 years of age, work for a licensed broker, and have an errors and omissions policy (E&O) either through their broker, Alaska's pool insurer, or are covered by a broker who self-insurers.​

​If convicted of a felony, forgery, theft, extortion, conspiracy to defraud creditors, fraud, or other crimes in the Commission's judgment affect the individual's ability to practice as a real estate salesperson competently and safely, a license will not be granted. Before an application for a real estate license is considered, seven years must have elapsed since the individual completed the imposed sentence upon conviction.
